Developing with Google+, Practical Guide to the Google+ Platform is a small book packed with a lot of information about the Google+ API. Google has a complex ecosystem of API’s. Developing with Google+ helps navigate one part of that ecosystem. It will help you get started with the Google+ API and then quickly advance to more complex tasks.

I found the section about setting up OAuth access to be quite useful. The chapter on Google+ Hangouts demonstrates how to adapt the code from the Google App engine to Php. It is a much appreciated section of the book. Very useful stuff. Some Php and JavaScript knowledge will be helpful here.

The code samples and the real world web site scenario do a good job communicating the concepts put forth in the book. I particularly liked the section on integrating Google+ comments into the content of the ‘Baking Disasters’ website. This and other aspects of the book have given me a basis for new ideas along similar lines. Can’t wait to start putting some of this knowledge into action.

I would recommend this book. It is probably a best fit for the novice to intermediate developer. It’s not an in-depth study but certainly contains enough information to familiarize you with the Google+ API. I am happy to add this book to my technical library.

Disclosure: I received a free e-book copy for review purposes.
